MAH-g-PE

MAH-g-PE (Maleic Anhydride Grafted Polyethylene)

MAH-g-PE is polyethylene functionalized with maleic anhydride groups. Grafting maleic anhydride introduces polar functionality onto the non-polar polyethylene backbone, helping the material interact more effectively with polar polymers, fibres, fillers, and other substrates.

It is used as a compatibilizer, coupling agent, adhesion promoter, and interface modifier in polyethylene-based compounds, polymer blends, multilayer structures, and fibre- or filler-reinforced composites. Its applications include PE/PA blends, natural-fibre and wood-plastic composites, mineral-filled compounds, glass fibre systems, and selected wire and cable formulations. citeturn0search0turn0search1turn0search2

Key Applications

MAH-g-PE creates a functional bridge between polyethylene and polar materials, supporting better adhesion, compatibility, dispersion, and composite performance.

1

PE / Polyamide Blends

Used as a compatibilizer for polyethylene and polyamide blends to improve interfacial interaction and dispersion.

2

Wood-Plastic & Natural Fibre Composites

Improves adhesion between polyethylene and wood flour, cellulose, and other natural fibres in composite systems.

3

Mineral & Flame-Retardant Fillers

Supports coupling and dispersion of fillers such as calcium carbonate, talc, wollastonite, aluminium hydroxide, and magnesium hydroxide.

4

Films, Coatings & Wire/Cable

Used as an adhesion promoter, surface modifier, or coupling agent in selected multilayer films, coatings, and cable-compound systems.

MAH-g-PE Applications

MAH-g-PE – Improved Compatibility, Adhesion & Composite Performance

MAH-g-PE combines the compatibility of a polyethylene backbone with the reactive polarity provided by maleic anhydride groups. This makes it useful for bridging non-polar PE with polar polymers, fibres, fillers, and other substrates. Proper grade selection can improve dispersion, interfacial adhesion, mechanical performance, and processing behaviour in the final compound. citeturn0search3turn0search5turn0search12
