MAH-g-PP

MAH-g-PP (Maleic Anhydride Grafted Polypropylene)

MAH-g-PP is polypropylene functionalized with maleic anhydride groups. The grafted anhydride functionality introduces polarity into the otherwise non-polar polypropylene backbone, helping improve interaction and adhesion with polar polymers, fillers, fibres, and other reinforcing materials.

It is widely used as a compatibilizer, coupling agent, and adhesion promoter in polypropylene-based compounds and polymer blends. MAH-g-PP can improve interfacial adhesion, dispersion, and composite performance in applications involving glass fibre, mineral fillers, polyamides, PET, natural fibres, and other polar materials. citeturn0search0turn0search3

Key Applications

MAH-g-PP helps bridge non-polar polypropylene with polar materials, improving interfacial adhesion and dispersion in polymer blends and composite systems.

1

Glass Fibre Reinforced PP

Used as a coupling agent to improve the interface between polypropylene and glass fibre reinforcements in composite materials.

2

Polymer Blends

Used as a compatibilizer in PP blends with polar polymers such as polyamide and PET, helping improve phase interaction and morphology.

3

Mineral Filled Compounds

Improves interaction between polypropylene and fillers such as calcium carbonate, talc, and other mineral reinforcements.

4

Natural Fibre & WPC

Supports improved adhesion between PP and cellulose-based fibres in wood-plastic and natural-fibre composite systems.

MAH-g-PP Applications

MAH-g-PP – Advanced Compatibilization & Coupling Performance

The maleic anhydride functionality of MAH-g-PP provides a reactive bridge between polypropylene and polar surfaces. This makes it particularly useful where conventional PP has limited adhesion to fibres, fillers, or polar polymers. Proper grade selection allows compounders to balance graft level, melt flow, processing behaviour, and required adhesion for the target formulation. citeturn0search1turn0search12
